Seabed Geomatics Database - Project Outline

Svitzers exchange for marine Geophysical, Geohazard and Geotechnical data

To provide for distributing geohazard data Svitzer Surveys is offering a data exchange service for offshore data; this will operate similarly to our North Alaska Databank for seismic data, see North Alaska Databank Surveys . This database consists of public, partner-owned and company-owned data.

In order for data owners to get value from their existing data we will offer data that companies have on the shelf to developers new to an area. In most cases we will reformat data in some way – reprocess seismic, digitize CPT data, put Metocean data into an Excel spreadsheet, load data into SMT format, etc. so that it may be quickly utilized and easily stored. The data will be licensed to the purchaser on a non-exclusive basis at approximately 50% of the data cost plus reproduction charges; licensing proceeds will be divided between the owner and Svitzer Surveys. Once reformatted, Svitzer will store the data in digital format for other users. The owner of the data will retain complete rights to the data and Svitzer will maintain and distribute the digitized data on a non-exclusive basis, dividing license fees with the data owner.

In this way companies can recover value from their existing data, new developers can acquire data faster or less expensively and the data are made available to industry in a digital format.
